Our internal meetings are structured around annual themes defined collectively. Since 2015 this leads to the organization of our EMPIRES biannual international conferences aimed at fostering innovative research agendas in the field. The conference “Resistance and Empire” was held in 2016. In 2018 we organised and hosted an international conference on “Slave Subjectivities” (in collaboration with Casa Velasquéz). “Petitions” was also held in 2018. In 2022 were organized two international events, “Crossing histories of writing in the Portuguese colonial empire“ and “Public Rituals and Alterity in the Portuguese Empire“.
