Ângela Barreto Xavier wins Infosys Prize 2021

Ângela Barreto Xavier (ICS-ULisboa)  was awarded with the Infosys prize 2021, in the category of Humanities. The prize aims to celebrate success in research, by researchers of Indian origin or residents in India.

in the words of Akeel Bilgrami, chair of the jury in Humanities:

“We choose Doctor Xavier for her superb accounts of different aspect of the Portuguese Empire in India. Her extensive body of work in both English and Portuguese have shown an to be an important and original voice in Indian history of the colonial period. Doctor Xavier writings are remarkable, both for their meticulous archival research and for the highly illuminating theoretical framework withing which its findings are given explanatory power and depth”
