Cross-fates and political dilemmas of the Portuguese monarchy in the first third of the 19th century

Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro (ICS-UL) presented the conference “Destinos cruzados y dilemas políticos de la monarquía portuguesa en el primer tercio del siglo XIX” (Cross-fates and political dilemmas of the Portuguese monarchy in the first third of the 19th century), at the conference “Portugal-Brasil, diálogo a dos orillas” (Portugal-Brazil, dialogue between two shores), organised by the “Instituto de Ciencias Históricas”, on August 18, 2023, at the Universidad de la República (Montevideo Uruguay).

This conference is part of the activities developed by members of the Research Group Impérios, Colonialismo e Sociedades Pós-Coloniais of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, who are on a Research Exchange period at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina. For around 30 days, they will take part in various activities in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, in close cooperation with the local academic community.

Participating in the activities are Ângela Barreto Xavier (ICS-UL), Isabel Corrêa da Silva (ICS-UL), Joana Fraga (ICS-UL), Kevin Carreira Soares (PIUDHist/ICS-UL), e Nuno Gonçalo Monteiro (ICS-UL).

These activities take place within the framework of the project Rebellion and Resistance in the Iberian Empires, 16th-19th centuries, which has received funding from the European Union, through the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Grant Agreement No 778076. The ICS team is led by Ângela Barreto Xavier (ICS-UL).
